Connect with your customers: think strategy |
|
Now that search engines have turned the internet into an full time trade show, it takes a smart approach to be seen and talked about online where content is key and contacts are currency.
From your website to search engine optimisation (SEO), blogs, social networks and making good use of your mailing lists, just where do you start communicating your business?
With your customers. With what they're looking for and how you can help. With how you can interact together. With being seen as valuable, consistent and credible. With a strategy.
You'll need to identify the right tools and channels and set your online goals. Is your website going to help people find what they're looking for? Shouldn't your homepage really be the Google results page? Are you useful to know on LinkedIn or Twitter?
Keep tracking and refining to improve your results, and see how your online marketing complements your offline activities. Offering options and answers for your customers is an ongoing business when you want to improve your traffic levels and response rates!

Make an impression: content is key |
|
It's your content that really decides how both people and search engines will want to interact with you online, as design plays a more simplified and supportive role (unless of course you're a designer!).
With shorter attention spans and search engines looking more closely at your range of content, there's a straightforward choice - engage, or fail to gain an edge.
Is it useful? Is there a point to what you're saying? What about adding video or podcasts? We've put together a quick guide to help you think about making the best impression on your website, newsletters and blogs. Use it to get a kick out of your content!

"You won't be interested in businesses like ours"

CMS & eCommerce: getting extra value |
|
Whether it's generating and updating your site's content and resources through a Content Management System (CMS) or offering items for sale through an eCommerce shopping facility, you'll want something that's robust, well supported and in tune with your needs.
Once a mainly bespoke field, there's now a large range of flexible low cost packages that offer the core functionality for designers and developers to adapt. However, it still takes skill, time and money to make these integrate well and function effectively.
Up-to-date, optimised pages or a clear and well maintained shopping facility will boost your business; after choosing your systems it’s using them which is where you’ll see their true value and the opportunities for gains to be made.

Manage your reputation: Google Alerts
|
|
Want to know what people are saying about you (and your competitors) online? You can keep a track on the latest web and news results with Google's Alerts service that sends email updates when it ranks the search terms you want to follow.
It's easy to set up at Google Alerts which offers a choice of frequencies to receive the mails. With the speed of the web you'll often be seeing 'as it happens' links shortly after the content is posted.
Twilerts offers a similar service for Twitter users. And talking of Twitter (where traffic has already trebled this year!), you can follow me here.

Nothing's certain in our web and emarketing future - no doubt we're looking at greater mobile access to the web, new ways to both deliver and monetise users' experience plus increasing ROI gains for those who plot the right paths to their targets. We'll still be offering great service though!
Like some help with where you're going online, or to manage your expectations? From getting more from your website to improving how you communicate online, we're just a phone call or email away to discuss your ideas, answer questions or meet up (without any obligation).
